The Julian Residence was built on the initiative of J.J. van der Linden, the founder of the Iona Foundation. He wanted to create a meeting place with a library for students of Anthroposophical studies in Dornach.

After discussions with the relevant institutions it became apparent that there was a particular need for student accommodation. This is why a house for students was built which included spaces for cultural activities. On the two lower floors there are 13 student rooms with a communal kitchen, on the top floor there is a small hall for cultural purposes. Part of the house has underground parking facilities which can also be utilized by other institutes.

Through its wave-like roof the building opens out towards the valley and integrates harmoniously with the surrounding hilly landscape.
